Ash Scattering

Golden Gate Bridge Ash Scattering

We are continuing to provide ash scattering memorials.

To ensure adequate social distancing we are limiting group sizes to 16 passengers. We are also requiring masks for anyone below decks and within 6 feet of the crew. Please see our FAQs for detailed information and feel free to call with any questions.

Captain Kirk’s San Francisco Sailing offers private scattering of ashes & memorial services from our luxury yacht on San Francisco Bay. We have been providing dignified, affordable memorial services since 2002.

The San Francisco Bay, Golden Gate Bridge, Angel Island and the Pacific Ocean have special meaning and a beautiful place to release ashes into the sea.

The Santa Cruz 50 – Bay Wolf is an excellent yacht for scattering ashes. She is stable and comfortable. There is plenty of room to move around and people enjoy the ride and the sights and sounds of San Francisco Bay. Setting the sails as we sail back under the Golden Gate Bridge has been a special occasion for many families and friends.

We also offer two other high-quality yachts, Osprey and Mahalo, a 50-foot boat, and 35-foot boat respectively. Osprey is spacious, beautiful and serene. Mahalo is a really nice boat that’s cost effective for small groups.

Prices:

Ash Scattering memorials are a two-hour minimum, start at $400 and are usually within the $400 - $900 range. The price depends upon the size boat you use, the location you sail out of and the number of guests and the length of time you go out for. Please call for accurate pricing. We will try to get you the best trip we can for the lowest cost.

Timing:

Usually we do the ash scatterings in the morning around 10:00 AM, because that’s when the wind is light, which makes it easiest to do the scattering. However, we are flexible.

We will often combine the ash scattering with a sailing tour of the bay. Our guests have found this combined approach makes the whole event more memorable and enjoyable. Families appreciate that the ashes are scattered from a fine sailing yacht and feel this type of ceremony is very appropriate.

We take great pride in our work. One recent guest added the following in our Ships Log:

"Thank you for a perfect sail today. Scattering my mother’s ashes was a difficult thing to do, but you made the trip enjoyable and I am sure that she appreciated the grace and beauty of Bay Wolf. You and your crew member Sean were the perfect hosts. Thank you for taking care of all of the details"

We can accommodate up to 24 people for ash scatterings, but it’s most comfortable up to 16 passengers.

We are licensed with the California State Cemetery and Funeral Bureau (Lic # CRD878). We will handle all of the required paperwork and filings.
