Corporate Team Building Events

We have many years of experience with corporate sailing events. We will tailor your sailing event to the needs of your team:

  • We can organize a tightly structured event or provide a less structured event. Sailing allows your team to enjoy themselves and spend quality time together away from the stresses of the office.
  • Sailing on San Francisco Bay is an excellent way to build all aspects of your team.
  • A perfect way to strengthen relationships with key clients.
  • We can arrange Corporate Sailing Charters for parties of 6 to 40. Groups up to 20 can all sail on one boat, or any size group can sail with two boats for a race.
  • We have boats chosen for their ability to sail really well out on the bay. One of our larger boats is a fast, performance racing boat and the other one is a blue water cruiser. It is fun to sail on fast boats that are well-maintained, responsive and designed to really sail well.
  • Bay Wolf (Santa Cruz 50) and Osprey (Gulf Star 50) are available for groups up to 20 passengers.

Three Convenient Locations

  • Pier 40 San Francisco (next to Oracle ball park)
  • Sausalito (the north end of Sausalito)
  • Marina Village, Alameda

Reasons to Do a Corporate Event

There are just a few of the reasons corporate teams have gone sailing with us:

Sales goals celebrations, end of year celebrations, new client or new staff onboarding, off-site meetings, VIP customers, team bonding, executive outings, staff retreats, client appreciation, team rewards, client entertainment, sailing lessons, and various prizes, including winners of a contest to have an ultimate day.

Bay Wolf - Team Challenge

Bay Wolf is the perfect yacht for corporate team building; is fast, stylish and fun to sail. The team challenge is best with up to about 12 passengers. All team members get a chance to steer and trim sails. Working together, the boat moves quickly as we see the sights of the bay and pass other boats.

Our team challenge is where members of your team learn to sail the boat and then take the wheel. To turn a sailboat we move the sails in close coordination with the steering. Your team will work together through a series of turns to make this happen (with close supervision from our crew of course). Alternately, they might choose a "man overboard drill, where we throw a bucket overboard (don't worry, not one of your team ☺) and work to retrieve it. It's tougher than it sounds, and people have had a lot of fun doing this.

Your team will have lunch on the boat during this four-hour trip

Bay Wolf is the ultimate boat for something like this. She is one of the best boats on San Francisco Bay. One CEO was so impressed with the trip for his senior management, that he booked the boat 2 days later for another trip and a 3rd trip for July and a 4th trip in October with his family. Nothing says quality like a customer who returns for four trips in the same season. We’ve often had people come from all over the U.S. just to ride on this renowned boat.

Angel Island

Angel Island State Park is a great sailing destination with its fascinating history, wildlife and beautiful views of the City and Bay.

We can arrange team-building sails that include a picnic, barbecue or hike on Angel Island.

We combine great sailing with excellent food and drink on the island. We have arranged picnics, barbecues, scavenger hunts, and hikes around this wonderful island. Your team can also visit the museum on the island and learn details from the captains about the history from the early Miwok days, to the island being used as a quarantine station, a base during the civil war, a station for new immigrants (“Ellis Island of the West”), and a Nike missile base before being turned over to the state park system. Angel Island still has many historical buildings, along with a lot of wildlife and beautiful views.

Angel Island Barbecue

We have been having a lot of fun with the Angel Island Barbecues. We would take your group sailing to Angel Island where they would have a great barbecue. This is prepared by one of our captains that heads over before your group in another boat, and gets everything ready for them. Your group would arrive and the barbecue would be ready to go. They then sail back to San Francisco (or alternate starting point) or they would take a side-trip to get closer, or under the Golden Gate Bridge before heading back, or often sail to the Golden Gate Bridge before the barbeque.

If you just have the barbecue, sailing to and from the island from San Francisco is a 5 hour trip (6 hours from Alameda). If you take the additional time to sail near or under the Golden Gate Bridge it takes 5.5-6 hours. It would also take more than 5 hours if you wanted to add on hiking or a scavenger hunt.

Barbecue food: we serve fresh chicken, beef, and vegetable kabobs that are marinated ahead of time then barbecued by our talented barbecue chef. We also serve fresh fruit in season (perhaps watermelon and strawberries, or what is best at the time), green salad, potato and/ or other salad, chips, rolls, vegetables, dip, then a fun dessert. We also can include vegetarian burgers and other dietary options. Other items may be added on or substituted with the season.

Team-Building Structure

Our Corporate Team Building events focus on Communication, Problem Solving and Team Competition:

  • Communication:
  • San Francisco sailing builds effective communication. We will train each team member in different positions (trimming sails, steering, calling tactics, etc). Then we will change positions to let everyone have a chance at the different positions. The crew members' have fun while learning new skills.
  •  Problem Solving:
  • As the team develops skills on the boat we may begin drills such as Man-overboard (MOB) drills. In the case of the MOB drill, the team must retrieve a float or bucket dropped into the water with the boat under sail. This is a difficult task and often requires several attempts. Effective communication and problem solving are required.
  • Team Competition:
  • We often take out groups with two boats and plan a race. Everyone can participate in the sailing of the boat and winning the race. It’s fun to watch your office partners on the next boat and exchange pictures of each other later on.

We can arrange a tightly structured event with a serious team-building race, or a more relaxed event that allows people to simply enjoy the scenery and get to know each other better. On all trips everyone gets an opportunity to sail the boat. Our captains are experienced sailing instructors and we can teach anyone to sail.

Benefits : The benefits of sailing Bay Wolf on San Francisco Bay include effective communication and problem-solving that are important to all teams. Sailing is also a time with no outside distractions, allowing team-members to develop personal connections and bonding that will carry back to the work environment.

Enjoy sailing a fast-racing yacht and improve your team.
